I had a full days landscape workshop with Iain in the Lake District around Rydal Water. My main aim was to learn how to use my polariser and filters correctly and to do some slow shutter speed shots of the Lake to get the milky water effect, as I have never tried this before.
Iain took us to some beautiful spots and advised us of good points of view and lots of tips along the way. The day was very relaxed and not having used filters before I now feel I am able to set myself up to take long exposure shots.
I would highly recommend a day of instruction from Iain who is very attentive and gives lots of good advice along the way. Five Stars.

Enjoyed a super day’s photography with Iain in the Lake District. Iain’s knowledge of his subject is excellent and which he imparts with a friendly and approachable style. There were several well researched locations visited during day which were all chosen to offer a range of techniques including long exposure. Iain gave time to each participant and whilst aimed at beginners, the back to basics approach gives even more experienced photographers food for thought on improving their technique. Many thanks Iain for a great day out (and thanks for arranging the excellent weather!!). Four Stars

A very enjoyable and informative full day's tuition.
I found the online booking easy and received detailed joining instructions prior to the day outlining what to expect and what to bring.
I needn't have been apprehensive as a novice. Iain was outstanding on the day. He is everything you would want in a mentor; friendly, patient, knowledgeable with the ability to tailor his advice based on your individual skill level.
Within 15 minutes, I had already learnt a couple of invaluable tips that will vastly improve my photography.
The small group gave the right mix of tuition time and self practice, with Iain always on hand to guide and offer advice.
Iain had a superb knowledge of the stunning locations visited, adapting the schedule throughout the day to suit the weather conditions (we had glorious sunshine through to snow!). He also advised on composition and pointed out the best spots at each location, even knowing the position of the sun in relation to the landscape at any time of day.
By the end of the day I felt much more confident shooting in manual and using filters and will be able to practice the skills he showed me. I can't wait to get out with my camera again.
I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and would highly recommend for anyone looking to improve their photography skills. It would also make an ideal gift for an amateur photographer.

The day was well structured but flexible. At our first stop the light was beautiful, so we spent a little longer there.
Iain made sure he knew what each person wanted out of the day and what experience we had already so he could tailor the advice. He guided the attendees but let us work at our own pace and trial some techniques.
The workshop was well organised including places to stop for breaks and good details about arriving, parking and all the practicalities too. I’m looking forward to practicing new skills learned and going back to visit some of the wonderful places I’ve been introduced to.

After having travel and activities restricted for over a year I jumped at the opportunity to spend a day in the Lake District learning the basics of landscape photography as restrictions were slowly lifted.
I found the whole experience enjoyable and instructive.
The beginners landscape in the Lake District
The group was restricted to 3 students of comparable ability ensuring each attendee received good chunks of 1 to 1 assistance whilst offering the opportunity to interact with like minded people.
Iain had thoroughly planned the places we visited and we were even challenged to various types of weather from warm bright sunshine to snow. His knowledge of the area as well as his subject is first class. His instruction was perfectly pitched and patiently delivered in a friendly manner. No need to feel intimidated or stupid as we practised with our cameras in manual setting, on a tripod, composing the image and the workings of the exposure triangle. We tried using filters and working on settings adjustments.
Full COVID restrictions were noted and all attendees felt completely safe.
Having learned so much and with renewed confidence I booked on the Novice moving water day in the Yorkshire Dales. I had never successfully taken moving water, either I got a black screen or a white screen but no water! I am not the most mobile either. The weather conditions were favourable and I managed to access the locations with Iain’s help and his stick! he must have felt like he was taking his Granny out.I was so happy with what I achieved. Thank you iain. A first class experience in every way.

I would just like to take a moment to thank you for running the ‘moving water‘ workshop on 25th April.
This was the first workshop I have attended being a novice photographer and I enjoyed the day so much as your experience, help, instruction and patient was amazing. During the day I learnt so much and the pace was just perfect for me.
The locations you took us to were just fantastic and we were able to move around safely and try out different things. I look forward to attending more of your workshops in the future many thanks for everything.
